Electric Scooter Trial (South Gloucestershire Council)
South Gloucestershire Council has given notice that, it intends to introduce a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TRO) to support the ongoing electric scooter trial.
The Order will permit electric scooters hired from an authorised operator, and used strictly in accordance with Department for Transport regulations, to use any road or length of road in South Gloucestershire where pedal cycles are currently permitted.
South Gloucestershire Council has determined that allowing authorised trial scooters to use these routes is necessary to:
- Reduce ambiguity regarding where trial e‑scooters may be ridden.
- Enable their use in suitable areas of the highway, supporting the continued extension of the Department for Transport trial.
- Manage potential risks to the public associated with the trial’s operation.
The Order will come into effect on 7 September 2026 and will remain operative for a maximum period of eighteen months.
