National Grid Electricity Transmission (NGET) have released plans to refurbish a section of our existing Cilfynydd to Melksham Overhead Transmission Power Line.

The line is around 60 years old and needs to be refurbished if it is to continue to function. This refurbishment will ensure we can continue to provide a safe and reliable supply of electricity to homes and businesses in your area for years to come. The work forms part of National Grid’s multibillion pound annual investment in maintaining and upgrading its electricity transmission infrastructure, including The Great Grid Upgrade, the largest overhaul of the electricity grid in generations.
This work will cover the part of the route that runs from the South Wales valleys, through Newport, across the Severn Estuary and into South Gloucestershire.

In preparation for the works, we may be conducting vegetation clearance later in 2026. Some minor vegetation clearance work along the route has already been carried out to enable surveys.
We are in contact with landowners along the route about seeking their permission to carry out these surveys.
None of our work will affect electricity supplies in the area. We will do all we can to keep any disruption from our works to a minimum.

Ahead of starting work, including the main vegetation clearance, we will write to nearby residents and businesses. We will also be back in touch with you with more details nearer the time. Please note, the exact timings of our work can often change at short notice because of factors such as the weather.
