M49 Junction Delay
As you will already no doubt know, Pilning & Severn Beach Parish Council has been informed by National Highways that the M49 Junction is not currently expected to open as previously scheduled.

Following recent inspections, independent engineers have identified defects at the junction. For safety reasons, the junction cannot be opened to traffic at this time, including on a restricted or partial basis, due to the risk of further damage.

National Highways has confirmed they are working with their supplier to assess the issue and agree on a programme for the required remedial works. We await further information, with a fuller update expected later this year. The Parish Council remains in contact with National Highways and South Gloucestershire Council to hold them accountable for progress.

Parish Council Priorities
The Parish Council shares the frustration of residents and local businesses regarding this delay. While safety must remain the priority, our community cannot be expected to absorb the impact of this situation without support. Consequently, the Parish Council is pressing for practical action in the following areas:

• Road Maintenance: Prioritising road surfacing and maintenance in Pilning, specifically on routes currently bearing heavy volumes of traffic where the road surface condition is unacceptable.
• HGV Management: Closer monitoring and enforcement of HGV movements through the village to prevent the use of unsuitable local roads and ensure existing restrictions are respected.
• Clear Communication: Demanding clear, regular, and timely updates from National Highways so that residents are not left relying on speculation.

Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs)
In the interim, the Parish Council is actively participating in consultations regarding new Traffic Regulation Orders (TROs) to support traffic management across the area. These measures include proposals for 30mph speed limits on Western Approach and the introduction of ‘Clearway’ orders and double red lines on Govier Way to control problematic parking. We continue to represent local views in these consultations to ensure any traffic solutions are practical and effective.
